Boons

A character may have a number of Boons based on the character's total number of card points.

  1-40 = 2 boons 201-240 = 7 boons 401-440 = 12 boons
  41-80 = 3 boons 241-280 = 8 boons 441-480 = 13 boons
  81-120 = 4 boons 281-320 = 9 boons 481-520 = 14 boons
  121-160 = 5 boons 321-360 = 10 boons 521-560 = 15 boons
  161-200 = 6 boons 361-400 = 11 boons +40 card points = +1 boon

A character may only have one of each boon, with the following exceptions:

bullet Masokian Meditation (U134) (see below for more details).
bullet Arion's Course (R132), Cat's Eye (UNI003), Kasalorn's Gift (UNI002), and Rhiannon's Training (UNI005) may be taken a second time once a character has reached 250 card points.  These boons may be selected a third time once the character has reached 500 card points.
Channel Link

Characters in a Channel Link may transfer or receive up to a maximum of 20 role-playing points during a gaming session.  A character may choose to donate or accept points, but not both.  The transferal of points MUST occur at the end of the gaming session, and character’s giving or receiving transferred points must have played during the adventure.  Non-guild characters may not give points to guild characters, but may receive points.

Example: Eldona, Balnor, Pithan and Drusa survived the adventure.  Eldona chose not to be in the Channel Link during the adventure.  At the end of the game, Balnor offers to donate 16 points to Pithan and 4 more to Drusa.  This is all the points that can be transferred, since Balnor cannot donate any more, Pithan and Drusa chose to accept points, and Eldona (not being in the link) cannot participate.

Channel link has an effective range of 'line of sight'; if you can see the other members of your group, the link works fine. If others are out of sight but still nearby (within 500 feet) then the link continues to function. Any farther than that creates problems.  Characters may stay in touch at a distance of up to a mile, but require a +WIS roll in order to maintain the link. A failed roll means a temporary loss of the link. The player may attempt a roll to re-establish the link, but it takes all of her concentration to do so; this means, in a combat situation, she must use her action. Rolls to re-establish a link may be made once every five minutes.  A character more than 1 mile away from other members temporarily drop out of the link.

Masokian Meditation

Masokian Meditation can be taken up to a maximum of five times.  Each time this boon is taken, its effects increase.  Consult the chart to determine the effects of additional Meditations.

Number of Boons Hit Points Granted Total Hit Points Gained
1 Masokian Meditation +4 Hit Points +4 Hit Points
2 Masokian Meditations +8 Hit Points +12 Hit Points
3 Masokian Meditations +12 Hit Points +24 Hit Points
4 Masokian Meditations +16 Hit Points +40 Hit Points
5 Masokian Meditations +20 Hit Points +60 Hit Points

After gaining the 5th Masokian Meditation, the character is considered a Meditation Master.

PC Valarian Mentors

During a guild game, PC Valarian Mentors may grant a non-restricted boon to another player character with the permission of the Storm Warden.  A Mentor may only grant boons that her character possesses and may only grant one boon to a character per gaming session.  The Storm Warden has final approval on the granting of any boon.

Removal of Boons

A Storm Warden may recommend that a character lose any boon.  The Storm Warden must write a statement and send it to the Guildmaster describing the character's actions and the reasons that this character should no longer have the boon.  The player may also write a rebuttal and send it in to the Guildmaster.  The Guildmaster will then decide a course of action based upon the evidence given.  A character that has a boon removed, may regain the boon again at a later time.

Restricted Boons

The Valarian War Master, Valarian Mentor, Glyph of Mastery, Arch Mage, Spirit Dancer, Warlock and Valarian Mastery are all restricted boons.  In order to gain one of these boons, a Storm Warden must recommend a character for the boon.  The player must then submit, in writing, a statement describing the character and the reason that she feels her character deserves this boon.  The player's statement and the Storm Warden's recommendation form must be sent to the Guildmaster for final approval.  Characters that gain these boons will receive a certificate validating the possession of the boon.  A character may not have any of these boons signed onto their character sheet without the certificate.

San Con X

Special event or festival boons can only be earned during a specific time frame - one week prior and one week after the event or convention where the boon is sponsored.  At this time, only characters that actually attended the San Con convention could have earned this boon.  In addition, those characters will have received a special certificate and, if they possess this certificate, the boon will not count against their normal allotment of boons.

Assuming that the San Con convention is held around the same time in 2004, characters will be eligible to earn the San Con X boon around May 30th to June 15th of 2004.  More details will be provided as the festival approaches.  This will provide a uniform time frame for all characters to have an opportunity to earn this boon.
